Amy Tardif

At-Large Representative

Amy Tardif is the Station Manager and News Director for WGCU-FM in Fort Myers, Florida. She oversees a staff of 6 in news, production and a radio reading service.  Her program Lucia’s Letter on human trafficking received a coveted 2011 Peabody Award among others. She is the producer and host of Gulf Coast Live Arts Edition, a weekly call-in arts show and spent 14 years as Morning Edition host. She spent five years as producer and managing editor of WGCU-TV’s monthly environmental documentary program called In Focus on the Environment. Amy has served in the At-Large position on the PRNDI board since 2007.

Fellowships Available From SPJ

The Society of Professional Journalists is offering two Fellowships worth a combined $85,000. The Eugene C. Pulliam Fellowship for Editorial Writing awards $75,000 to an editorial writer to help broaden his or her journalistic horizons and knowledge of the world. The cash award can be used to cover the cost of study, research and/or travel in any field.

Women Journalists, Could We Be Perpetuating the Glass Ceiling?

There’s an interesting piece on the Poynter website today called How to pitch (stories) like a girl.  Author Jillian Keenan is bemoaning a report from a group called the OpEd project, which tracks gender representation in print editorials.  Not surprisingly, women wrote only 20% of Op-Eds in traditional papers like the New York Times and the Washington Post during the group’s 2011 survey period.  Women were more active in so-called “new media” outlets, like the Huffington Post and Salon – but they still authored just 38% of Op-Eds in those outlets.
